Feedback on the current MMR-System

So i decided to post my thoughts on how the current MMR-system works, what are its flaws and how those could be improved in my opinion. This has been an issue for players since a while already but because of the importance it has i wanted to highlight it again. The problem is the low gain/high loss rate of MMR when youre being matched against a player with substanially lower MMR than yourself. To exemplify this ill just describe my ladder experience from yesterday.

Since i couldnt play the recent days-weeks out of lack of time time i was still lvl 17 and an MMR of about 2.3k. Currently im playing my Reveal-Deck wich has an 58 % win rate as of now with +120 matches played wich makes the percentage rather representative. Of course this % will go lower as the ladder goes higher but as of now i rather noticed better results, cause of some techs i did against Skellige. However yesterday i lost my first two matches out of horrible draws, both against players wich were much lower ranked than me, the 3rd i lost cause of a gamebreaking mulligan bug wich didnt let me play cards after the 1st phase and i had to exit the game. After this i was already pretty tilted wich is a slight side effect from losing in such ways and dropping MMR in huge amounts. I guess i just shouldve let it slide at this point but i only won 2 rounds out of 6 matches at that point and also wanted to regain my lost MMR. So i kept playing and lost another 3 matches in a row, some to being unlucky, some to misplays wich i might have done more of than i remember. With a winrate of 58% losing 6 matches in a row is pretty unlikely and at the end of this horrible streak that kept going i dropped from 2.3k to 1.8k, mainly cause i was constantly being matched against players that had much lower MMR than me.

The problem is that the game seems to think that if a player lost we just give him an opponent that is "weaker" so that he has an easier way to climb back. However each match is an individual thought process and even though i got some experience i still make a considerable amount of misplays of wich even the seemingly trivial ones can be game deciding. So, the issue is that youre being trapped in some sort of downward spiral, you lose, you get lower ranked opponents, you lose even more MMR if you dont manage to beat this person and so on.

This needs to be adressed by either reducing the points you lose against lower ranked players or increasing the ones you get by winning against these cause often enough youre gaining as many points from two victories against lower players (25-30*2) as you lose with one loss against a lower player (50-60). Especially considering the popularity of netdecking it doesnt encourage players at all to try something new when theyre being punished like this on the ladder.

At the end of the day i managed to get back up to +2.1k at least so thats at least something positive from my yesterdays experience. Some might say ive just been unlucky or that its my fault for not having stopped playing while i was having this streak but my example should just depict an issue wich has been around since long.

Thanks for reading this, its my first post, any feedback or constructive criticism regarding this topic is greatly appreciated.
