Looking for Help Editing a Letter I'm Writing to Congress

Discussion

Hello all, I wouldn't really call myself a die-hard progressive. I think that there are occasionally amazing candidates who can come from any party. (I'm actually amazed with my current rep.: he's republican, but has vocally supported net neutrality, fair wages and the environment!) But there are assuredly many issues I agree with you all on. More than anything, I want to see politicians display constitutional integrity and abide by the principles this nation was founded on.

My concern is mainly for an issue that I am not sure our leaders are acutely aware of and I have not seen discussed much by our current government: the unrest (and even anger) that the USA's youth are developing. This is the same unrest which has been positively channeled to fuel the progressive and grassroots movements as of late.

Over the next couple months, I'm hoping to send a personalized letter to each member of Congress (and possibly even SC justices, governors and other important political persons).

I'm hoping that by making these figures more aware of the discontentment many of us young folks feel, we can encourage them to begin appealing to our voter base by changing their stances.

Anyway, here is the text I've come up with thus far. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.

_Dear Representative,

I write to advise you that the young people of this nation are tired. I feel this is important, as I suspect that our parents' and grandparents' generations are not keen on how weary we truly are.

Those under the tender age of thirty have already lived through much. We have seen attacks on our homeland, economic depression, corruption of our Constitutional values. We have had to grow quickly through these hardships, to work hard and become stronger than was expected of our age.

We all are intently aware that The American Dream which countless of our compatriots have lived is disappearing from this country. We fear that our representatives are not doing what is presently needed to protect this dream.

I implore you to consider a handful of issues which would greatly relieve the exhaustion of our nation's young:

  • Stagnation of wages when compared to the costs of housing, healthcare and other life-dependent necessities.

  • Overwhelming subsidies and tax breaks for international corporations while their profits are at an all-time high.

  • Insufficient support for local businesses and smaller competition.

  • Fabricated election issues, leaving important decisions behind closed doors and quietly added to the end of bills.

Please do not misunderstand me, although we deeply love these United States, the young are tired of the nation that is being handed to us. I fear that my peers are becoming restless, perhaps even ill-tempered.

I ask you for only your thoughts, your integrity and your honesty. Your constituents and the rest of our nation have placed their hopes in your hands.

Thank You,_
