Buying A Truck in ON and Driving to AB

What's the easiest and cheapest way to do this?

A friend of mine suggested that if my last insurance provider still has my info on file (haven't driven in a little over a year), that I could just reactivate my account, send the ownership and pink card to a friend in AB, and get them to get the plate (my last one was stolen) and send everything back.

Is this even possible? Or would I be stuck having to get temporary plates and insurance in Ontario and then doing everything all over again once back in AB? (I'm trying to avoid having to pay twice).
