24M4A - The New Kingdom

It seemed that war was inevitable. The stubborn monarch of the kingdom hated the enemy, the Velenni Empire, and he would not tolerate the Empire's provocations anymore. He would not see his kingdom and it's refined, austere and dignified culture be absorbed by the decadent and perverted Empire. The armies were about to march out, and the populace held their breath. Then the king suddenly died, his heir too young to fully take power, and the Velenni armies at the kingdom's doorstep. Assessing the situation, a hastily thrown together regency council decided there was only one reasonable thing to do: Surrender. They dispatched an emissary to the Imperial ambassador, offering to willingly become vassals of the Velenni. The Velenni ambassador smirked and accepted.

No war broke out, and yet it still feels like the kingdom lost. The Empire is of course glorious and magnanimous - they are not violent raiders. Instead, they have sent groups of officials to the kingdom that will help with the transisition and introduce Velenni customs and ways to the court in the capital and implement it gracefully.

Those decadent, perverted, uncouth and filthy Velenni customs. And the inexperienced, conservatively-raised new monarch stuck in the middle of it all... Are they eager to learn? Nervous and reluctant? Somewhere in between? Time will tell.
