Exhausting Family Causing Emotional + Physical Pain While Building a Business (Rant AND Advice)
I'm 50% ranting 50% in need of some advice. I'm just not sure how to get OUT!
I'm 19M, live in Phoenix, and run an online business. It's taken over one bloody year of intense, hard work but oh boy is it finally going! My goal is to travel the world, however I am recovering from a snowboarding accident (intense sensitive headaches) so I'm quite limited physically and it slowed down my business.
Today I wake up at 0130AM and use the restroom. I barely peed, and so don't flush. I'm obviously in an exhausted haze. My brother (16M) pops outa nowhere, gets in my face, and says "FLUSH THE TOILET." I sputter, "what," having already forgotten I used the bathroom.
My brother proceeds to get up in my face and start talking trash. Rather than getting in a fight, I'm tired, so I go to flush lmao. I mutter a rude comment of course, and my brother had followed me into the bathroom! He got up in my face and punched the wall next to me and started screaming!
He started punching things, and while I can defend myself, I definitely DO NOT want to fight because I had a concussion 7 months ago and don't want to risk another! My parents coming flying out and start screaming at the both of us. My dad's jaw is locked up and his eyes are full of hatred.
He shames me, as if I somehow caused the problem. I explain what happened, calmly, and yet there is no resolve. We go back to bed, and I can't sleep (it's now 4AM). I'm so FUCKING ANGRY! This is a typical once in a week occurrence. My brother has intense mental instability, and my parents are unable to control it! And are crazy themselves!
This is just too much. I've gone through too much pain recovering form the accident & building this business to get more stress. My parents were never 100% supportive, until recently where I started making good money. The "you should go to college you can't make it" turned into "we always knew you had it in you."
I fucking hate it man. Ya'll will understand but entrepreneurs especially. Your family brings you down, until it becomes clear you'll be rich as hell then suddenly they're on your fucking side!
I haven't made it yet. I lost some clients, and my headaches (caused from neck from accident) prevent me from working a lot. I am barely scraping by because of the physical pain, and when stuff like this happens, it screws me over big. I've gotta be up at 0530, by the way.
I've recently decided not to wait any longer to heal up [Physically, all references of "healing" are from the physical headaches]. It's time to travel and adventure and be independent as much as I can. I hope to move to New Zealand in July. I'm working hard to get new clients and deliver value. I just CAN NOT take this bullshit anymore!
And, now that I'm making it, my parents want me to "keep the business in the family." The fuck? The family that fucks up my flow by waking me, scaring the shit outa me, and stressing me (causing a worse headache) at 2 AM? My dad hasn't had a job in a while, and wants me to show him how I get clients. I want to help, but I don't plan on hiring anyone soon.
I will NOT be delegating work to my family. The fact I am being relied on is pure insanity. I feel bad leaving them in the dust, but I won't make it dealing with this once (or twice) a week. Even if I had over-reacted to my brother, which I didn't, I shouldn't have been yelled at & shamed for no reason.
You see, writing this scares me because now I FEEL NARCISSISTIC. Am I being crazy?? I mean, the rude comment could've not been said but I feel like it was completely justified. Regardless, I fear this path of pain, and want to get out. Besides the fear of becoming evil/narcissistic, the pain, stress, headaches, & self-destruction is too much.
So. I have $600 saved up. I'd say I can EASILY make $2,000 in a month, upwards of $5k. However, I'm budgeting everything for 2k because you never know what could happen.
I literally own everything I need to travel the world. I own a special backpack and I can literally pack up and disappear within 20 minutes. I've trained for this moment, in case things got too bad. I've run the simulation in my head several times.
Now, I would do just that, but here are the issues:
-
Health. I still have super-sensitive painful headaches. I can "get by" but I want to be focusing money and energy towards healing. I think I'll be good enough to get anywhere though. While I want to save as much as possible, I accept I might just have to work harder by getting out now rather than trying to save (and risk getting my money taken).
-
Money. I have $600 right now. Just signed a $1500 contract. Now, I'm technically freelancing, and clients can be highly unpredictable. I get the first 25% on June 23rd, 25% 2 weeks after, then 50% if I can deliver. Sounds steady, but shit happens. Trust me. I'm still working on management abilities + workflow.
I had another prospect hit me up, and my minimum now is $1k a month contracts. My goal is to close 1-2 more deals in the next 2 weeks, so that I get enough money to finally move out. I only want $2k, so that I can get a plane ticket anywhere, first months rent + food-stuff.
I'm thinking New Zealand, because it's relatively cheap, very walkable (headache pain remember), and I can assimilate into a new lifestyle within ~2 weeks. I've trained for this by doing cold-approach pickup (meeting women + business prospects). Within ~2 months in Phoenix (we moved here a year ago) I could create a whole network of business & personal relationships. With my new knowledge, I could find fulfillment within 2-4 weeks!
I don't know if I'm just crazy man, but it's 4AM and I'm not exhausted. I will be when I awaken (if I sleep). I'm so tired of the stress, and sometimes I doubt if I'm over-reacting. I literally have a plan to be up and gone in 20 minutes [not at 0420, but in 20 minutes from whenever I want to leave], so maybe the fact that that developed is a sign that, while I'm not being actively abused (hit/etc.), there is definitely some emotional pain here.
Guys, what's your advice? I've never lived on my own and I'm scared. I just want to finish my business [hit $3k/Mo.] so I can move out, and have enough money to pay all my medical stuff. I have no debt. I want to heal, make money, and move out. Logically speaking, staying with parents is the safest, because I can use 100% of money towards health.
However, I'm tired of doing that. I feel like moving out will help heal my injury. Why? I don't know. I can just feel it, either that or my energy desires it. I've no clue how to do this. I'd be living in AirBNBs btw, or month-to-month rentals.
Money is an issue, but I have everything else. I even have the skill-set to make money. I just don't know if I should leave NOW, stay with friends, or even leave at say $1.5k (if I can) to get out ASAP. I can also just feel in my blood that moving out will make me more money in addition to healing.
There's something about independence that I need. It's 401AM now, I'm so tired of the bullshit. I've been going through worse pain than most people have experienced, while also building a business, and then add on these ridiculous family disturbances. I don't want to be like my parents.
All I know, is that right now I want a one bedroom apartment in New Zealand making $3k a month. Being healthy would be awesome also. I envision a life of independence, health, wealth, and close friends.
Am I crazy? Do I sound narcissistic? I hate this self-doubting feeling but I don't want to be like my family. I want to MAKE IT, do something, and break FREE! What is your advice/opinions? Thank you :)
P.S. for NZ I'd be staying no more than 3 months then do a VISA run in Asia or somewhere else. The heat here aggravates my head so if you guys think it wiser I may then go to Portland, Cali, or Seattle. The issue is that cost of living is more expensive, so much so (BUT I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE) I think that flying to NZ ($1.2k) is cheaper.
