about:config preferences which could be changed for the better...

This post covers some about:config changes that could be changed for the better. Some of them are set in a certain way in Firefox for non-understandable reasons.

security.tls.version.max

default: 3

new value: 4

REASONING: Setting 4 instead of the 3 will enable TLS 1.3 as maximum instead of TLS 1.2. Since using the better encryption - if available - should be the norm this value has to be changed.

media.autoplay.enabled

default: true

new value: false

REASONING: The autoplay of music and video files is just annoying. This should be turned off by default. People who like playing videos/music without allowing it to do so can still change the value back.

security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled

default: true

new value: false

REASONING: This is the annoying warning that pops out under login forms when a website uses a less encrypted connection. Since the lowered security can already be seen in the address bar (crossed out locker), there is no need to annoy users with this.

signon.autofillForms.http

default: false

new value: true

REASONING: Firefox prevents auto-filling forms on normal HTTP sites, which is a major annoyance. This should be backed out.

privacy.userContext.enabled

default: false

new value: true

REASONING: Enables the Container tab feature in Firefox/Waterfox. No need to hide this from the user, as this feature is quite useful and is stable by now.

Firefox/Waterfox 55+:

extensions.screenshots.system-disabled

default: true

new value: false

REASONING: Starting with Firefox 55 Mozilla will introduce a screenshot feature in Firefox. Same goes for Waterfox. There is no need to hide this from the user, so it should be enabled.

OTHERS:

Firefox/Waterfox 55+:

browser.photon.structure.enabled and browser.uidensity

default: false

REASONING: Setting those to "true" would enable the Photon redesign that will be standard starting with Firefox 57+. The "false" value should stay this way, but there should be an option in the preferences to enable Photon if one wishes to do so.

NEW VALUE:

general.useragent.override

REASONING: This should be available by default in about:config, yet it isn't. The user should have the ability to change the user agent, perhaps even in the preferences pane as an advanced option. Please add this value to about:config.
