[Event] Unrest in the Congo (Part 1)

-event-

October 7th 2019 - The Democratic Republic of the Congo

Elections for a new president were originally supposed to be held in late 2016. They were postponed until 2018 and were once again delayed until 2020. The president has now served his second term for more than a year of what was originally intended and stated in the constitution.

The opposition has been and are still accusing the President Joseph Kabila for the postponed elections, and are saying that he allegedly just wants to stay in power.

October 11th

The official opposition and most political parties of the national assembly have told the President and his cabinet to hold an election in the coming month, due to the fact that Joseph Kabila has held power for far too long.

3pm October 12th

The President denies this proposal and says that there is too much "unrest" and "danger" to hold an election this year.

6pm October 12th

Large protests against the current president and cabinet have now erupted in Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Mbuji-Mayi and countless other cities, with the protesters wanting the president to step down from his position immediately.
