How Much Information Does This App Collect?!
In this link it's stated that it merely collects processes. But now I've noticed it also collects usernames. So if I start a game, like LoL, it collects my username and asks if I want to share with X amount of friends. It even collects Skype details! I haven't used skype for a long time and yet when I first downloaded discord, it pops up with my username and maybe one of my friends and asks if I want to share. This has made me very uneasy. I don't want this fucking app rummaging through my PC collecting all sorts of account details and asking if I want to share! What is it with stupid apps that don't consider user privacy, really?
Discord markets itself as being an alternative to Skype. But isn't it really just Skype 2.0?
-
It's based in the US, the worst location for privacy.
-
It spies on users as much or even more than Skype.
-
It's not open about the above and it doesn't give people the option to turn it off.
-
It's not open-source or FOSS software.
-
It's very very vague on security implementation. It basically doesn't tell users what security is in place.
What Discord is, is a Skype for gaming, made so cute that people think it's ok be spied upon. I'm sick and tired of how difficult it has to be to find a mainstream app that doesn't SHIT on its users privacy and security. Just like Skype does. Discord will be the new backdoor for intelligence agencies, just like Skype is and was. You'll see. Users shouldn't have to accept this poor treatment.
Discord could've led the way in terms of privacy and security. I'm really disappointed it chose not to.
