How to get noticed in the first world as a third world System Programmer?

So I live in a third world country where you either choose to be a C#/Java programmer for the rest of your life or move up to the management, neither of which I want to do.

I have been dabbling in technology for a long time and I am competent in C/C++, Rust, Go, CS, and low-level programming. It's what I want to do for the rest of my life, System Programming that is, but career options are extremely limited in my country. I thought that only way forward is to contribute to a crucial OSS project and get hired on the basis of that, remotely or visa-sponsored locally.

I wanted to ask, what are some projects that I can contribute to that won't be a hit-and-miss for me? Or is there any other way of going about it?

I really don't want to make high-level applications for the rest of my life.

Thanks!
