National Party of Scotland | NPS Manifesto Roadshow arrives in Kirkwall with /u/Zoto888 & /u/Rlack | 17/06/17
After spending the morning speaking to residents of Kirkwall & the surrounding areas, u/Zoto888 & u/Rlack briefly spoke outside St. Magnus Cathedral on their time in Orkney & the campaign thus far
It’s great to be here in Kirkwall today - it’s been quite a gloomy morning weather-wise, so as always it’s fantastic to be welcomed so warmly by everyone here. u/Zoto888 and I have spent all morning speaking to residents about where they feel they’ve been let down by the established parties, and especially where they’ve felt what is beneficial for the people of Kirkwall and all of Orkney has been ignored or overruled by the Parliaments of Holyrood and Westminster - this is why it is a core belief of the National Party of Scotland to devolve significant powers to towns, villages, and communities all across Scotland, fundamentally changing how local politics is perceived and practiced, and allowing the people of Scotland true self-determination and policy direction.
It is the instinct of these governments, by and for finance, to prioritise the demands of the cities & moneyed metropolitans over in Edinburgh and London over the needs of Scottish communities like this. The National Party of Scotland say enough! It is time for the governments to recognise that it is the communities like Kirkwall across Scotland that show the best of the human spirit, and that the enterprising spirit of the Scottish people has been let down by the inability of the established governments to share the wealth in common. While the economic situation in Orkney is encouraging at face value, this is the region in Scotland where people work on average the longest hours - working such long hours reduces the time we have to spend with our loved ones, pursue our dreams, and live comfortable lives.
The National Party of Scotland do not believe that people are defined by their employment, and that while the busybodies of Holyrood and Westminster may reduce you to factors of production, we know that life is colourful, vibrant, and worth living - this is why we promise to introduce a Fiscal Transfer, redirecting wealth and investment into the Scottish economy to areas like Orkney, encouraging technological & mechanical investment & development in sectors like agriculture & construction, along with a push to reduce the working week to 30 hours - it is time for the economy to work for the people not squeezing them dry.
We’re going to be heading back out in a moment, listening to what people have to say and discussing what we can do to help - this is the quintessential role of a politician, and we will not treat the Scottish Parliament as a vanity project. Thank you for coming out tonight, and we hope you can lend us your support in the upcoming election!
