All they would have to mention was that before he was sent back to hell, he had WON. Destroyed the Earth with no way for Goku/Vegeta to get revenge in that situation.

... Then Whis rewound time because he enjoyed Earth's food. So the only reason Frieza's revenge went sour is because a being that Frieza can never hope to match happened to be chilling around Earth one day.

Frieza isn't aware that ever happened, and would be absolutely livid if he found out.
