Night Talon versus Blood Magic - who is top vamp?
I want someone to explain to me why Blood Magic Lord (BML) is supposedly better than Night Talon Lord.
The Night Talon Lord (NTL) is a card that can be played on turn 9 with effect. He is a threat that has to be answered. If I drop him in a field lane with creatures, my opponents have to sacrifice creatures to kill this 8/8 unless they have an answer in hand. If they don't kill it, I will gain 8 life and probably a creature. If I drop it in an occupied shadow lane, I will definitely gain 8 life and a creature unless they have an answer in hand. With drain, NTL is also useful in empty lanes.
The BMLord (...funny, never thought about that) can have immediate impact on the board but only if you have the magicka and only if you get a useful spell. He is a big threat but also easier to kill as a 6/6. He has no utility in an empty lane if the first spell is not useful. That means he needs to go into a lane with killable creature that will still be there next turn.
In terms of spells, I will concede that Raise Dead is a fabulous card. The rest are only ok. Gargoyle has value as a 5/5 but is also a wall my opponent can crash his creatures against so BML has no targets. Drain life will give you 5 health but will likely pop a rune. Corpse curse can be good but often times feels marginally too-little-too-late.
Since both NTL and BML run in slower decks, it is very likely you will be behind in health. You can argue about the fact that BML can have utility without breaking an opponents runes, but under what circumstances is hitting face with an 8/8 drain creature a bad idea?
I have been playing copies of both in a few decks for a while to compare them and I am always more happy to see the NTL than the BML.
What am I missing?
TLDR - I think talon lord more often has more utility than blood lord
