Better opioids than Codeine?

So I've recently just go out of surgery and was prescribed Codeine Forte (30mg/500mg) and they hardly do shit, or only work for ~20minutes.

Is there any longer lasting, better opioids i could just cop online? I'm pretty naive when it comes to this class of drugs
