Help me structure my portfolio please

STRATEGY

I hold exclusively BTC now, have about $7,500 in my savings account. After reading about Ethereum, I've decided that it has tremendous upside potential, much like Bitcoin. Unfortunately, I haven't been following cryptocurrencies for years (bought my BTC at the end of 2013 after the crash, and HEDL until now) and only recently started following again after reading about BTC in the news.

I've decided that I want to get in on Ethereum long-term. I already have a position in BTC, so I'm seriously considering converting part of my BTC into Ethereum (60% BTC:40% ETH) on Poloniex. I see BTC as the "conservative" part of my portfolio and ETH as the "riskier" part.

Am I being stupid?

My net worth is pretty much just BTC and cash right now. I know it's crazy not to have any hedging (since the price performance of cryptocurrencies are quite strongly correlated), but I believe in cryptocurrency more than the stock market now.

Also, I'm considering day-trading with the $7,500 in my savings account with ETH... just so I can buy a new phone or car. I'll be disciplined enough to exit accordingly regardless of the market movements. That way, I can make a short-term profit (or loss) while still having a long-term position in ETH. I might even throw $500 into some promising alt-coins (e.g. Siacoin, Digibyte, etc.), amass 10k coins, and HODL for dear life.

Again, is this dumb thinking?
