Litecoin unable to parse decryption key

I've had a wallet on ice since late 2013 and decided to dig it out again this week. When I went to put the passphrase into the RPC Console I got the error: Parse error: unbalanced ' or " This would be because I have a long randomly generated passphrase. At the time I saw nothing to indicate that those characters would be rejected. Any way of getting back into this wallet?
