Need advice on replacing the Primaris Shoulderpads

I want to replace their left shoulderpad with a Deathwatch shoulderpad. Since the Primaris shoulderpads are molded into place already, would you just take a knife to it and hope for the best or is there a better way to go about it? Any advice would be appreciated. :)
