Addiction Treatment

There is an error you made on your show, which I support, it is excellent. However, AA and 12 Step programs are not treatment programs, they are social programs where the addict in recovery can find others, can identify and socialize without drinking or using drugs. There are all kinds of AA and 12 Step programs, thousands, even for atheists, LGBTQ, and different, "races", cultures and ethnic groups all over the country. I have worked in, research and written in the addiction field for many years, and 12 Step Programs can be used effectively in recovery if integrated into a holistic, multimodal recovery program. However, they are not therapy per-se... nor are recovery coaches, and family mentors, please research this topic more carefully, my best.. William B. Secor, Ph.D.
