Just finished the game, here are my thoughts *spoiler*
So after realizing the DLC was just around the corner, I've been trying to finish the base game before it came out. Beat every boss, then beat the darkest dungeon. Honestly, the 2nd darkest dungeon mission was by far and away the most punishing mission in the game, no idea why. I had so much fun with this game, especially with lower level characters where I could make whatever party I wanted and still see some measure of success. I would like to get my thoughts on the classes out there though:
-
I found that while I used the Highwayman a lot early game, his damage dropped off, and his utility just wasn't there, so late game, he just wasn't worth.
-
The Grave Robber and Hellion became my favourite DPS classes, mainly cause they were so mobile and could hit pretty much anywhere (and the Grave Robber had pretty good accuracy)
-
While the Leper and Arbalest do decent damage, they are so useless outside of the front/back rows (respectively) and have so little mobility, that I just found them not worth the risk (plus the Lepers inaccuracy). The Arbalest was good for Wilbur though.
-
The Man-at-Arms is a bit overpowered. A stun that re positions him, a melee attack that hits 3 rows, a guard, a party wide speed and dodge buff?!!?! He fits in any row, and any party. He even almost compensates for the lack of a healer through defensive buffs.
-
Having only 2 healers in the game makes it get kind of boring. Sure, you can have some small healing abilities on other characters, but it isn't as reliable as having a dedicated healer. Honestly I got bored of having a vestal in ~75% of my parties.
-
The Abomination is so cool, I think I used every ability in his kit at some point, and his trinkets are the only class trinkets which I will always take. I figure this is to balance the fact that he can only run with the occultist as healer. The inflexibility of the parties make it hard to bring this guy out, which is a shame.

While the Plague Doctor is cool, I only really see her as a double back line stun. I think it would be awesome if she was reworked into a third healer, which would make using the abom easier, and increase party diversity. Of course, making a unique healing style would be difficult, and it might end up detracting from the character (and game). Just a thought.

The Bounty Hunter is insane. Set him up in a marking party, and he obliterates the enemies. Snort.
-
I love the Jester, and the Hound Master was pretty cool as well, but I didn't end up using them till the end game. I like the fact they are a little more complex. Don't have much to say besides I should have used them more.

I hate the Antiquarian. I see the idea behind it, hinder your party to get more loot, but IMO she just isn't fun. I don't have fun picking her abilities, it's just nervous stab, protect me, and whatever else (get down?). What trinkets should I use? Doesn't matter, she's pretty much useless anyway. Her combat has no real choice, you might as well be using 3 people. Just not the class for me, maybe I'll learn to appreciate her when I run Stygian mode after the DLC.
Final criticism's: Most of the trinkets are useless, usually I'll never use it if it detracts speed. As well as this, while I stuck to the same abilities for each class mostly, there are some which were options, and some I would never use (eg bulwark of faith). These don't bother me that much in the end though.
Thanks if you actually read all of that, I figure if I ramble my own thoughts any longer it'll get boring, so I'll end it here. Looking forward to the Crimson Court in a couple days.
