Why would you say that?!
I commented about this in the daily chat thread but I wanted to rant on a bigger scale. Feel free to skip to the end!
Yesterday, my fiancé's father and stepmother flew in from the other side of the world. We speak to them quite regularly on Skype, but we wanted to tell them in person, so have waited until they got here to give them the good news. It's Father's Day tomorrow here in the UK so got a card online, which basically announces they're going to be grandparents.
They're staying with a family friend, so last night, when we'd finished work, we drove over to meet them. FH gave his dad the card. He opened it, read it, made a really shocked/happy face then passed it to his wife. She read it, also looked delighted, but then said, "I noticed you've put weight on as soon as I saw you, and I didn't think that would be the plan before the wedding!"
I get married in 6 weeks and it's my hen do next weekend. Most people coming to that won't know that I'm pregnant, and all I could think after she said that was that everyone is going to think the same as her: wow, she got fat. I'm only 10 weeks and although I'm bloated and have much bigger boobs than I did, I really didn't think it was that noticeable. I ended up going to the bathroom and sobbing because I felt so bad about myself.
This morning, I got on the scales. I haven't been on for a while and wanted to check the damage. I've put on TWO POUNDS in the last ten weeks. That could even be the food from last night. My clothes still fit; I'm a UK size 10. I don't mind getting bigger with pregnancy - I know it's going to happen. But at the moment I'm not even showing and for someone to say that just really crushed me. I don't think she even realised.
Just wanted to get that off my chest! Thanks for getting to the end, if you have. I feel better today now I've been for a lovely long walk in the sunshine!
TL;DR - my future stepmother in law saw me for the first time in 6 months last night and we told her I'm pregnant. She told me she'd noticed I'd put weight on. I've put on two pounds in 10 weeks.
