What's up with Desert Eagle?

So, Im not so picky about weapon choices in games, and Desert Eagle is a dumb and fun weapon, but Im wondering if anyone more involved with the community here knows why it was included as Seals sidearm? Its puzzling, and I find it annoying when using SR25 that I cant have a more reliable sidearm choice.

It seems that most weird operator weapon choices have a loose justification behind them and thats fine, but according to Wikipedia barely anyone, except GROM and some Portuguese special forces, use it.

My beef is more about not having another choice, but I would love to hear any extra trivia or rationalization behind it.
