Does my cat like it when I pet her ears? What does it mean if a cat lets you stroke their ears?

I pet my cat's ears a lot. Sometimes she purrs when I do it, but she didn't used to. She really likes me as a person, so does she just allow it because I am giving her attention or because cats like having their ears pet?
