[Question] What's the best way to sort out personal files?

So I don't have a fancy set up or anything, just a 2TB ext drive and use my family's NAS for backing up, how do I go about sorting all my files? I have basically all my family's photos and videos, besides that a lot of files from school and college etc. I also have some save files and screenshots from games that I want to keep.

Now I try sort out all my stuff each summer, but I always end up being unhappy about how it is sorted out, I want a folder tree that's logical, makes stuff easily findable and should be logical for anyone else just randomly using it too. How do I go about this? I have no idea how to sort everything even though it's not that much in GBs compared to some people on here.
