Shoulder problems

So i recently bought my first vest. I noticed the shoulder parts of the vest tend to stick out a little bit, which makes the vest look like it has those 80s shoulder pads haha. I really wanna avoid asking someone to get rid of that because I want to make the vest entirely by myself. In what way can i make sure the shoulders look better?
