After tons of discussions (pretty old, btw) I didn't understand if Telegram is a good choice or not!

After having read lot of discussions, I didn't get if Telegram (by default, not secret chat, that doesn't exist for groups) is safe enough! In some 2015 post I read that the encryption is insecure (?) and that the message are stored in the server. Is it still valid? I'm lost :D
