The Small Things
I'm sitting across from you
Taking a small sip I look up
To the silence between us
But not the bad kind -
The comfortable kind
Amplified by the soft, acoustic music
Here in the solitary, cramped coffee shop
Your hair falls lightly down
Over the shirt I've always loved
It's simple, just a purple blouse
But on you it may be the world's most gorgeous garment
Outside it's wet and wild
Freezing rain and biting winds
Fail to reach us in our cave
Where it's always warm with you
The familiar scent of coffee beans
Mixes pleasantly with the even more
Familiar scent of your favorite perfume
To create this mind-numbingly beautiful aroma
You finally notice my musings
With a raised eyebrow peering over the lip of your mug
And your dark brown eyes unblinking
Staring straight into mine
I can't see, but I can sense a tiny smile
Creeping over your mouth
And as you set your mocha down
I take slight pride in my suspicions being confirmed
You cross your hands on the table
While giving me a questioning smirk
But the eye contact doesn't fail
And only grows with every passing moment
I answer your silent inquiry
With a small, equally silent laugh
And simply take your hand in mine
