It actually happened. A mid-meal breakup in the middle of a restaurant, and of course, at my table.

Long

Usual, long time listener first time caller, on mobile, etc.

So for a little bit of context I work at the only real restaurant in a fairly small town. Lots of regulars, but also a lot of travelling/tourist traffic. The town is currently host to several different film crews and this has brought all sorts of new folks out of the woodworks, Sunday took the cake.

Anyhow. The tale of sorrow.

It's about 3 PM on Sunday, that nice little break between lunch and dinner where you can maybe eat half of a sandwich, pee, and hammer out some side work. Entirely empty dining room. Enter the couple. Fairly average, she's very friendly, outgoing, and in a seemingly great mood. He's a little frosty, maybe just a quiet dude, fine whatever. I take their orders, two big dinner meals, with apps. Also fine. Where I work servers have to make all of our own salads fresh to each order, so I'm in the kitchen for roughly 5 minutes to make the 2 salads. I had to give the kitchen some instructions about the order in between, so we'll say I go out to run the apps about 8 minutes later.

Drop the salads off and suddenly she's in tears. She put her hand to the side of her face so as not to show, but I mean, definitely crying. I caught a sentence, (again, completely empty restaurant hard not to hear) something along the lines of, "you could've said that to me, instead of telling everyone else first." He is completely unbothered by the tears. I all but sprint back to the kitchen, and inform BOH with a wtf??? I am not looking forward to bringing out their mains, but alas, the food is done.

I run it, and she is still crying, hasn't touched her salad, and his bowl is totally empty. She immediately asks for take out box, through sniffles, and tells me that she has lost her appetite. I acknowledge that as kindly as possible, and set his plate down, he goes, "wow looks great!"

I go to the kitchen for boxes and run them back out to her immediately, this poor woman. She lingers for a few more minutes, curiously. I was in the kitchen looking out the window at the rain when a car pulled up, and when I turned around the woman had gotten up and was running to the car in the parking lot.

So to recap. This absolute asshole brings this woman to a small restaurant at the quietest hour of the day, orders full meals, and then dumps her before they have even eaten APPS, AND HE HAD DRIVEN HER THERE. What is wrong with people?! At what point is that an acceptable thing to do?? At least he paid for her dinner, I guess? Cashing him out was awkward as hell and our cooks found any excuse to come out front and get a look at the asshole lol.

TL:DR man and woman order 2 course meal. He dumps her before they've even had apps. Awkwardness ensues.
