New to investing and have only 401K and individual stocks - what to do?
I am 27 and have only been working my first "real job" for 18 months.
Combined, my husband and I are currently making 250K a year.
We live well within our means and have no debt. Our bills including mortgage and every thing else (insurance, phone bill, internet, electric, groceries, water, gym memberships, etc) maybe amount to a little over 3K.
I started my retirement fund about a year ago. I currently have only a 401K with about 33K dollars in it. I do not yet have an IRA but know I need to start one - right?
I also just invested about 10K in a few individual value stocks which I realize might be risky but I'm a little hesitant to do index funds and ETFs right now in a very mature bull market.
The rest of my money is just sitting in cash savings (ugh) - about 40K.
As far as my husband is concerned he also only has a 401K with about 20K in it, about 5K in company stocks, and 20K in cash savings.
We both know we need to start being smart about money but it's hard to know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions?
