Is Mathematics Universal?

Anyone is free to go into the more specific realms of mathematics, but my question is mostly concerned with the fundamentals or basic elements of mathematics.

For instance, I've read occasionally that if aliens were real and came to our planet: it would be mathematics that allows us to communicate and cross linguistic boundaries. In an metaphysical sense: like, think about how essential "I have one of x, if I add another x I'll have two of x" is.

If anyone has looked further into this an has cultural examples/cases that'd be cool beans

Edit: See how our shadow counterpart r/INTP argues here
