'Staring out the window in the evening while listening to music' (thoughts about past JW restrictions)

Well a couple of weeks ago I had a sudden realisation that there is a habit I used to have which I haven't engaged in for a very long time (No, it's not what you're thinking... lol). I haven't just put on an album and listened purely for the sake of listening, and then continued putting albums on, listening for half a day or more. I used to do this regularly years ago, and I don't know if it is the changing of technology that has changed my habits, I mean, when listening to cassettes way back when, even though you could fast forward to another track, it was less user friendly, you couldn't just click a button and instantly access a song at the end of the album for instance, there was a bit more fiddling involved, so maybe that kinda forced you to listen to song after son because the option of 'easy' searching wasn't so readily available, and with the advent of CD technology and MP3 etc you can just skip album to album so easily, no fiddling, or changing cassette, vinyl etc, so maybe I lost the habit of listening to hours of music because of this, I don't know.

Anyway I'm sitting here listening to a Gloria Estefan album I bought in 1993, (a very Latin/Cuban album named 'Mi Terra', maybe a tiny bit commercial, but I love it), just staring out of the window in the slowly fading evening light.

So this thought suddenly came to mind, this is not an English language album, Spanish I would say, but who cares, the music is beautiful. And I got to thinking, do any of you remember being warned against listening to music in a foreign language if you didn't know that language? I'm sure I can remember that. I think the idea was that you didn't know what was being sung and therefore you could be getting your entertainment from a Satanic immoral song. I can remember having guilt feelings and having to hide some of the music I listened to in case someone heard it and started acting out 1984 style. This CULT was so restrictive. All those silly restrictions which often impeded happiness

This is just one example of the many inner conflicts I had while attempting to do things which made me happy. Do any of you remember this or other 'silly' restrictions? And how did you get around the religion's controlling ways in areas like this?
