What is the effect of weed camps on the local fauna and flora?

Lately I've been thinking about those illegal weed camps on foreign countries, where armed men guard vast camps of growing marihuana. Being completely honest, I don't have any idea about how the plant works planted on soil.

My question would be: How does the marihuana growing camps affect the local animals, bugs, and surrounding plants? Does it take a lot of nutrients from the soil, or does little to no damage to it? Do bugs react differently to it? Or it's just like any other plant?
