How do I upgrade mobo drivers properly?

So it's been almost a year since I built my PC, and I haven't upgraded my mobo drivers since then (which is probably why my games have been running like shit in the past few months). So do I go onto my mobo's manufacturer's site and go and download the up to date drivers? Anything I really need to worry about?
