Seeking a recommendation

I've been a big fan of Bioware's work going all the way back to the Baldur's Gate games. Back in the day I also enjoyed Sierra's Quest for Glory series, the Monkey Island series, and Arcanum: Of Steamwork and Magic Obscura. Although gameplay is important to me (obviously), I'm always a sucker for strong plotlines, a well-developed universe, fun/interesting characters, and a sense of adventure and exploration.
Although I tolerate them in Bethesda games for some reason, I'm not a big fan of endless cookie-cutter fetch quests.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was pretty good, but lately Bioware (particularly with Mass Effect: Andromeda) just isn't doing it for me. Any recommendation for where my gaming dollar and I should go?
