Audio cutting out of left headphone. HDMI or speaker issue?

My HDMI cable is pretty folded up so I'm thinking that could possibly be the issue. Is there any way to know for sure? Can I just buy a regular HDMI cable off amazon for a few bucks or do I have to buy the $50 one Oculus sells on their wesite?
