I'd like to redecorate my succulents, anyone know cheap alternatives for decorative top dressing?

I'm having a hard time finding pretty and inexpensive top dressings for my succulents like turface, river rocks, fairy garden stones, etc. I've read before that some people like to use cat liter, but I'm afraid it'll clump up when wet. Thanks for the help!
