/r/nutrition Subreddit updates - Diet Evaluation Requests should use the new feature post (and some other updates)

Hey all,

The new weekly Diet Evaluation Request post

Based on feedback from you about improving the subreddit, we've analyzed some of the types of posts we get and found that the Diet analysis request posts;

    1. are rarely vey popular (but are numerous)
    1. usually generate mediocre discussions (lots of top-level comments with few replies)
    1. said mediocre discussion is often the same in content across these types of posts
    1. are not really beneficial for other users to read due to their personal nature, and
    1. The subreddit r/FixMyDiet was created by one of our users specifically to suck these types of posts out of r/nutrition (it obviously has way less traffic than here so the appeal wasn't very high).

Therefore, the weekly Diet Evaluation post has been put into play. After a reasonable trial period, we'll weigh its effectiveness. Beginning today, any and all personal nutrition analysis type requests will need to go in the comments section of the new feature post rather than posting to the subreddit front page.

About the Automod comment on posts

A handful of you don't want it. We hear you. Unfortunately due to the continuing adversarial nature of a small number of folks in the subreddit, the reddiquete reminder needs to remain. We are still getting large numbers of posts about topics which have been covered numerous times, therefore the FAQ reminder needs to continue. You can help to make the autmod post response go away by reporting and/or voting accordingly when adversarial comments and repeat posts appear.

About those adversarial commenters

The most frequent complaint about the r/nutrition subreddit made here and elsewhere on reddit is in regard to the tenor of conversation. This isn't about anyone's cursing. It's about derailing topics and intentionally being rudely adversarial.

Of the dozen people who come to the comments of r/nutrition posts with the intent to be adversarial, uncivil, and absolutist, about half have now been banned. Except for the others in that dozen, the rest of you got the message and we thank you for keeping your participation civil and on topic. All diet type supporters are welcomed here (even extreme ones) but if expressing your POV means talking ABOUT others rather than conversing WITH others while supporting your points with evidence, then you may be one of those problem people running up against the reddiqeutte and off-topic rules.

We are sincere when we say reddiquette is a rule in this subreddit. Don't insult, start flame wars, brigade, or engage in any other pot stirring issues. Besides violating stated rules, most of that kind of thing is off-topic as well. Talking about others isn't talking about nutrition.

One last thing on this topic - we've got some folks who are walking the line of brigading. If you already have reddiquette issues in this subreddit which we've had to address with you, then be aware that walking the line of trying to influence discussions here by posting them in your preferred diet related subreddits will probably get you banned. If you want to share with your compatriots to laugh or whatever about comments in this sub then make sure that you remove reddit IDs from screen caps and if you link to a comment only use np links.

Updates to the FAQ

Soon we will set up a discussion post about the FAQ to seek your input for general and specific things you think should be added. In the meantime, take a look at recent posts, the repeat topics, and consider how they might be addressed via the FAQ.

Please keep the comments confined to the points stated above. This is not a battleground post for dietary points of view.
