Ranger school before SFAS?

Back story: I joined the army as an 18x, went to Selection in 2015, nonselect at SFAS, got reclassed to 11C (got lucky there).

My unit is deploying in a few months and after the deployment I'd like to go back to Selection. I'm being told that when we get back I should go to ranger school first instead so I can add that to my experience before I go. I wouldn't mind going to ranger school. I just don't know how to feel when people tell you you need more experience like they know what the cadre are looking for when they've never even been to Selection. I had a lot of friends (18x) that got selected and that are finishing up the Q course and they had zero experience. So I guess my question is will it really make a huge difference in my chances at getting selected if I go to ranger school before.
