Is the current society praising simplicity and/or Ignorance rather than complexity and/or innovation?

Through exploring the internet, it can be observed that the dumber and the more controversial you are, the more publicity and fame you get. While innovators and the real contributors to society generally stay in the shadows unnoticed Even in the sphere of politics, the louder and the simpler the person is the more appealing he or she look. So, Is the current society praising simplicity and/or Ignorance rather than complexity and/or innovation?,why? And would this have implications on our future society?
