Canon a35 f and Conica C35 ef.

I found both these cameras online for very cheap. They are cheap because the flash does not work on either. On the canon a35 f, can I still use it without putting a battery for the flash? I read it uses 2 different batteries. One for light meter and one for flash. If I just pop in a battery for the light meter will it work? Conica c35 is it worth buying with a broken flash? I plan to carry both in my bag for occasional shooting.
