Rules on medication
Hi r/ATC, hopeful controller here with a question on medication. In looking around the web at various sites I see a lot of conflicting information about what is and is not acceptable as a controller, which has me a bit confused about whether or not I'm able to do this.
In particular I needed to know the rules about ADHD and ADD related medications. The standard for them from the 2013 guide I found says that the stimulants like amphetamines are excluded (completely understandable), but I can't figure out if the medication I'm looking at taking is also precluded under these rules (Strattera, a non-stimulant medication with 24 hour effects but reduced effectiveness as compared to stimulants). It is still classified as a Central Nervous System agent, but as far as I could tell those weren't specifically precluded by the Flight Surgeon. Can anyone tell me whether this is something I could use legally as a contoller?
I also am iffy on whether or not the condition itself is acceptable. The guidelines I've seen say that that you may be precluded from being a controller just from having ADD, but the keyword that has me confused is "may". I've been told that my form is relatively mild, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by mentioning it and getting a mountain made of a mole hill or the like. Is there any kind of standard for when the condition is acceptable as shown in the guideline from 2013, or is it just a case by case "how well can I convince them I'm not going to freak out" sort of thing?
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this or if it's been answered before; I just can't seem to find any definitive answers on this, and I'm worried about saying the wrong thing to the wrong person on this issue.
Edit:
