[UK] How can I avoid unfair deductions from my tenancy deposit? (X-Post /r/LegalAdviceUK)
Long story short I'm moving house and the landlord is known as being somewhat unfair. (on a list of 'landlords to avoid').
I want to try and avoid any unfair deductions from my deposit. The landlord has issued a 'price list' of charges for if things are not cleaned correctly, broken etc.
Is it fair to ask for receipts for replacement furniture / cleaning services / replacement bulbs etc to ensure that the money that is deducted is actually used for furniture / not pocketed?
How would I go about disputing a deduction from my deposit?
As I mentioned before the landlord issued a pricelist. (for example - "Carpets not shampooed - £150'). None of these charges appear in my contract and now is the first time I am hearing about them. Is this an ok way to make deductions / is it ok that they are not in my contract? I feel that the landlord could have put any number he felt like - does he have to justify the cost?
Thanks for any help you can give!
