How do girls out of your distance range appear for you?

Hi, at first I was getting those and when I liked them it was a match. I assumed it was because they liked me before (within distance range) and I liked them back later when they were out of that distance. Nowadays I am getting girls out of the distance range, but it is not a match when I swipe yes. If they did not like me, why do I get those out of my distance range in my results? Thanks
