Hairstyles for thick hair on a narrow face?

http://imgur.com/a/PVR3u Hey. I'm 21 and I have had the same little kid haircut since I was... well a little kid. My hair is pretty thick and I usually just brush it to the side but I'm looking for an actual hairstyle. My face is long and thin so I'm not sure the beloved short on sides and long on top would look good on me. When my hair gets longer it just poofs out and I end up looking like a broccoli. I'm open to any and all ideas for styles and products.
