How to Commit to Home birth?
I'm pregnant with my first child and love the idea of homebirth. I've done my research and read lots of books and am convinced that it is the way to go. I'm having trouble committing to home birth, though and wondered if anyone had any advice. The thing that scares me is 1) my family and 2) giving birth in an apartment. My husband's family is super supportive, but my side (my mom especially) is super fearful and constantly throwing fear-based comments at me. I'm worried that emotionally that knowledge will affect me during the birth and prevent me from having the natural birth I want.
Additionally, I will be in an apartment and worry that it won't be private enough for me to consider it my safe space. I'd love to find a natural birthing center but just moved to California and the environment here is pretty anti-home birth. There are no birthing centers close to where we are, and only a handful of midwives. I'm meeting with a midwife for the first time in a couple days and wonder if I should express these concerns to her. I don't want her to think that I won't be able to go through with a home birth because she's literally the only one in the area who is available for my due date. Any help or advice appreciated.
