Help with paying for labor in timber
Hello,
I recently purchased a lot in a northern New England state to build a home on and will begin clearing it this weekend. I have a friend who is a forester who wants to help and maybe make some cash with me selling any valuable timber he can find.
I want to compensate him for his labor, which will be felling and processing the trees as well as his expertise with the business and wood assessment. The compensation will be in the form of splitting the profits in some way of wood sold, or just letting him remove some wood to sell in his own.
Anyway, looking to fairly compensate, without giving away the farm so to speak. This land is financed so it has a monthly cost to me, so I need to make sure I value it accordingly. Does anybody have ideas for what sort of arrangement seems like a fair trade here? I should add that I will be working alongside him, and on days that he is not there as well. I just want to know what is a fair trade.
Edited for typos.
