Anyone have any experience with the Xeon D series? (specifically the D 1528, hex core)

I have seen several pre-build threads asking about the Intel Xeon D processors, but very little from actual build posts.

I am currently running a desktop that I built using from spare parts (16GB DDR3 ECC Memory, AMD 8120, 4x 1.5WD Green Drives) and I want to build a new system for freenas 11 that is done "right" and with server grade items.

Also, to complicate things, my wife told me I am only allowed to do this in our small apartment if I can make them small and quiet, so I want to build this in a Fractal Node 304 case, which means mITX. Also with the VM's becoming more and more accessible, I wanted to have >32GB of ram (Or at least the capability to upgrade to more), as well as IPMI. This in mITX form is hard to find, unless you are building on a Xeon D, or Intel Atom boards.

I dont have any major specs required, but I do require at least 2-3 1080 streams from plex, as well as a Windows Server Virtual machine, which will be a second Windows Server VM to give my AD server redundancy.

I was just curious if anyone had some experience with the Xeon D's, I think the hex core should be more than enough, the octa core, or 16core versions would be overkill I think.

Thanks!
