Newly injured gill flap

My Betta appears to have developed gill hyperplasia, his health otherwise seems fine and all of the water parameters are stable. My main question is whether this is causing any discomfort for him and whether I can help out.

His tank is a planted 20 gallon long, heated and filtered with a few Amano shrimp.

From the forums I've read, it seems like his gill will be like this from now on but if there's a way to help it heal that I haven't found please let me know!
