Slick back hair question for curly hair

For all the men out there that have curly hair and can still rock a decent slick back and to the ones that don't have curly hair but are experienced with this sort of thing this question is for you as well.

I have some bad curly and frizzy hair, however, it is smooth so when I brush it, it turns straight, but after a couple of minutes it begins to curl up again. Now I remedied the situation by using a hair dryer (with heat protector on) and some over the counter hair gel to try and go for the slick back. It worked... To a certain extent..

From the front it looks perfect and slicked back, however, if someone was to see it from the back, it looks pretty bad in my opinion. For the life of me I cann't straighten out the ends of my slick back. Like everything looks good but the ends of my slick back in the back of my head are curled up and just look bad. I have tried cutting the ends in the past and the hair would be straight but after few days it turns curly again.

Any solutions, products, tips?????? I was thinking of wearing like a beanie or something to hold it, or even go for a perm... I don't know any more :(
