Reincarnation Dilemma
I’m currently playing a grave domain cleric who serves Sehanine Moonbow, who has tasked him to go into the world and destroy any undead abominations he finds. He has recently learned that one of his party members has been reincarnated and has lived out several lives. He / I am not sure how he should react to this new information. A reincarnated person isn’t the same thing as being undead so that part doesn’t really cause as much concern. What I’m struggling with is this section on the grave domain.
Grave Domain: Gods of the grave watch over the line between life and death. To these deities, death and the afterlife are a foundational part of the multiverse’s workings. To resist death, or to desecrate the dead’s rest in an abomination.
Followers of these deities seek to put restless spirits to rest, destroy the undead wherever they find them, and ease the suffering of dying creatures. Their magic also allows them to stave off a creature’s death, though they refuse to use such magic to extend a creature’s lifespan beyond it’s mortal limits.
So is reincarnation resisting death and the afterlife? Is it a loophole? I’m really enjoying the inner conflict it is causing him and I am not sure he will ever really have an answer for this.
He had a similar issue when the subject healing deadly wounds and more importantly revivification came up. Through his prayer and meditation he was presented the answer It is okay to prevent unnatural death, though one must accept it should it occur, but natural death is never unwelcome.
I’m curious what is your take on this dilemma?
Edit this was more a food for thought kinda thing. Getting different takes / thoughts on things tends to be enlightening for me.
