Epic of Remnant II: The Woman of Agartha - Section 2 Summary
The chapter begins with Fergus' words of disbelief.
"Unbelievable... The me that you know is..."
Fergus listed the attributes of his adult self. Honest and simple. Manly and promiscuous. Not only that, but whenever he sees a girl, he would invite them to spend a night with him.
A warrior akin to a Demonic Boar.
Ritsuka doubted that this Fergus is really Fergus. d'Eon also agreed, saying that this level of change is beyond d'Eon's 'transformation'.
Da Vinci laughed and said that 'she' understands their confusion, but 'she' assured them that this is the real Fergus, one of the missing Servant of Chaldea.
Fergus wondered why he is stuck in his in-training form.
Ritsuka asked Fergus if he like girls. Fergus was surprised by the sudden question, but he answered. He does not dislike girls.
It's just that he's not used to them, he's not good with girls. Also, rather than girls, he would prefer to train.
Training is something that is clear. Wasteful/useless thoughts and discord between siblings will fade away. Training is a simple action that, above all, allows someone to actually grow.
d'Eon asked if he likes training. Fergus answered, of course. He trains everyday to become a great warrior. Whether he is a royalty or not, it won't change anything as it is the way a Man of Ulster should be. Though, Fergus feel that he is still inexperienced.
Astolfo spoke up, amused by Fergus' words.
"Did you hear that just now? He actually said he's not good with girls, you know? It's that Fergus, you know?"
d'Eon agreed with Astolfo's disbelief.
"Yes... such a surprise. So his past personality was something like this."
Then d'Eon smiled, saying that the way Fergus likes to train is the same as his other self. Saying that Fergus became a great warrior not just because of talent, but because he worked hard since his youth.
Ritsuka wondered if this is a 'clean' Fergus given by the Fountain Goddess. (Reference to the Gold axe and Silver axe fable).
Mashu stated that there are parts that are similar with the Fergus they know, but there are also parts that are completely different. This feeling caused her to wonder what kind of expression she should make.
Da Vinci compares it with meeting a friend who you haven't met for years and seeing their personality changing suddenly. 'She' said that it is not a bad thing, but if they are too different, people might be confused about how they should react.
d'Eon commented on the irony of Da Vinci being the one who say that. Mashu commented that Da Vinci's 'face' being more drastic. (As in Da Vinci taking Mona Lisa form is stranger than a personality change)
"By the way, do you know Medb or Cu Chulainn?" Ritsuka asked Fergus.
Fergus answered that while he felt as if he knew them, but his head feels cloudy and he can't answer. He stated that there might be things that the other Fergus knows that he doesn't know.
Fergus blamed his inexperienced for that, and stated that he will change that feeling into effort and will try to remember things better.
Da Vinci whispered that him drawing strength from frustration over his own inexperience and training to fix his weakness proves that he is definitely Fergus.
Da Vinci stated that while their form, personality, and ability might be different. There is no doubt that he is the Fergus that they know, that he could be trusted.
However, Da Vinci wondered about the summoning. 'She' wondered if they deliberately summoned Chaldea's Fergus and changed his 'nature'.
Astolfo cut in, saying that he'll leave those thinking-type jobs to Da Vinci and that they have to move on.
Mashu agreed, stating that they should continue Agartha exploration. Fergus also agreed, stating that the reason why he is there might be related to what they are investigating.
Fergus stated that while Astolfo and d'Eon are lovely, they are also wonderful warriors, causing the two to blush. Fergus continued, saying that compared to them, he will only be a burden and won't be useful in a fight.
However, he continued, he is confident with his stamina. To this, Astolfo commented that this is the rumored 'super stamina' of Fergus. That Fergus doesn't sleep for most of the night.
Fergus seems confused by the idea of not sleeping at night, stating that sleeping is to recover energy. He wonders if it is some kind of riddle.
Believing it to be related to a way to use stamina (which is connected to being a great warrior), Fergus innocently asks Astolfo to teach him.
Astolfo, troubled by Fergus' sparkling eyes, is saved by d'Eon who returned the topic to Agartha exploration.
d'Eon stated that thanks to Astolfo's 'instinct', they managed to meet with the Brave Hero Fergus. (d'Eon would usually call people by their title, in this case, he calls Fergus Yuusha)
Fergus seemed stunned that someone called him that, and spoke.
"It is an undeserved honor, beautiful one, may I have your name?"
d'Eon introduced himself lightly. Then he stated that there's no reason to run around without any direction, suggesting that they trust Astolfo's instinct. But as he spoke, they saw a place that seemed to be lived by people.
At that place are amazons. Astolfo greeted one of the amazon directly, causing d'Eon to reprimand him. The amazon simply stared at them. Then Fergus joined the conversation and the amazon noticed him.
"A man?"
"What? A man?"
Amazons stepped out from the tents around the place.
"It's a man!"
"A stray man!"
"I think I heard something strange..." Ritsuka commented.
d'Eon asked Fergus to protect Ritsuka. Fergus stated that while fighting against the amazons won't be a problem, strength-wise. He cannot swing his sword against a girl.
However, Fergus declared that he will protect Ritsuka.
Mashu wondered if it a Geas is binding Fergus. Fergus denied it, saying that it is the matter of not knowing how to hold back.
After the battle, Da Vinci analyzed the enemies and concluded that they are amazons.
"You guys might have seen them before."
Ritsuka: "Feather... a Phoenix Feather... Ugh! My head is-!"
Mashu immediately voiced her worries, "Are you alright, Senpai? Is it a painful memory?!"
"For some reason, I feel like a lot of them are used on me... or maybe given to me..." Astolfo spoke with a blush.
"What a coincidence, I as well," d'Eon spoke, "Of course, for a refined Royal Knight, the method is different." (I'm a bit confused about d'Eon's dialogue here, honestly.)
Mashu spoke, "We've experienced battles with Amazon warriors several times before this. As a single enemy they are nothing to write home about but..."
"I want to ask them why won't they submit," Astolfo spoke about the amazons.
Fergus was amazed by the skill that they showed. Stating that he didn't expect to see female warriors that powerful.
d'Eon wondered if there's no female Celtic Knight, stating that there should be at least one famous person (Scathach).
Fergus stated that there are powerful female warriors around Ulster, but he never got a chance to meet them directly.
Ritsuka thought to himself that Fergus never met Scathach-anesan or Medb-san.
Fergus explained that is why he is not used to fighting girls. He couldn't see them as enemies and his hands would become rigid.
Astolfo stated that Fergus should be given the job to protect Ritsuka, and as for fighting girls, Astolfo believes that Fergus will be used to it later on.
d'Eon stated that according to their search, it appears the tents are part of a 'hunting' base and that the beasts they fought before were, most likely, hunted by the amazons.
Astolfo and d'Eon discussed about the reason behind the hunt, which is most likely as cooking ingredients. Fergus whispered that he had a hard time fighting against one beast, but the amazons hunted them. They are fearsome warriors, he concluded.
d'Eon continued his explanation, saying that the spoils of the hunts were taken to a different place, and that they found the 'tracks' on the road leading to the different place. Which would mean...
Ritsuka agreed with d'Eon's unspoken assessment that there might be a city there. Fergus agreed, stating that even if it is not a city, it is definitely a place where people live.
As they began to walk following the trail, Mashu warned us to be careful, stating that they don't know the reason behind the amazons' sudden attack.
The chapter ends with Mashu wondering about the words that the amazons used, 'a stray man'.
