Review #1: Rittenhouse Rye BiB 100 Proof.

Hey all, been drinking bourbon and assorted whiskeys for some time now, and I figured it was about time to throw my hat in the ring in regards to reviews. Maybe I'll learn a thing or two. Anyway this is what I'm drinking tonight, and I figured, why not start here? Anyway, without much ado:

I purchased the bottle recently, and it was definitely a recent acquisition by the store, so probably a 2016-2017 bottling. I was drinking out of a tumbler, with a few drips of water.

Nose: I was getting a huge hit of cinnamon, with notes of vanilla and charred oak underlying. Slight hints of nutmeg.

Taste: There was a rather mellow start, and the vanilla came out a bit stronger at this point. That quickly evolved into alcohol heat and rye spice. As the heat started to fade, I got a lot more of a cinnamon after burn.

Finish: The cinnamon left a good burn, that stayed entirely in the mouth, and lasted for a good period of time. As it faded, I got a hint of pepper, but that was vague and still close to cinnamon.

Overall: I appreciate the Rittenhouse, although (this being my third pour) I can't fully say that I enjoy it better than the Bulleit Rye which tends to be my go to Rye thus far. I definitely got a lot more spice on the Rittenhouse, but it will be interesting to see how the bottle ages in between pours. Who knows? Time might make this one a winner.
